Atom optics
Atom optics is now an important subfield of atomic, molecular and op tical physics, and many passive atom-optical elements, including mirrom lenses, gratings, interferometers, and resonators, have been demonstrated In a direct application of the principle of wave-particle duality, one often proceeds by reversing the roles of light and matter from their familiar roles in conventional optics. Although there are notable exceptions to this rule, including the use of mechanical nanostructures as gratings and of magnetic fields as atomic traps and waveguides, this book concentrates largely on the use of light in atom optics.
